Hercules Glades is a small wilderness area in southern Missouri. It's one of my favorite spots, not just because it's relatively accessible. The White River Glades region of the Ozarks is unique, with a mixture of open "mini-prairies" or cedar glades and more typical oak/hickory forests.
In plain English, you can find a lot of variety here. The glades give you an "above the timber line" feel with open vistas and, especially in the spring, some startling fauna.
The place is a bit overused at times. Some folks seem not to quite understand that wilderness areas does NOT mean building little stone park benches or huge fire rings. Overall, however, it takes a lot of attention very well.
